Course Description:
Students will gain the knowledge base and practical experience required by a health fitness professional in today’s leisure industry. Successful students will be proficient in areas such as screening, fitness testing, programme development, class instruction and the general day to day running of a gym or leisure centre. They will acquire the relevant knowledge in anatomy, physiology and nutrition to ensure they are competent in their delivery of safe and effective fitness programmes.

€50 Certification Fee. Medical Card holders or those in receipt of a social welfare payment are exempt from this fee

Applicants to these courses must have specific grade in a QQI Maths module or Leaving Cert Maths Applicants who wish to train as coaches for specific sports usually have to gain qualifications from the National Governing Body (NGB) of the specific sport, e.g. GAA, FAI, etc. Many NGBs run a programme of training through the National Coaching Development Programme, supported by the National Coaching and Training Centre (NCTC) Sport Ireland.
This course provides a foundation for learners who wish to work as a health and fitness instructor or as a sports coach. Successful graduates can apply for roles as Leisure Centre Assistants.
