Part-Time Special Needs Assisting Courses Commencing January 26

All courses are offered on a part-time basis and run for 13 weeks. They are delivered using a blended learning approach, combining online and in-person elements to provide flexibility and support. Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and suitability assessment before being offered a place, ensuring the course meets their learning needs.

This award equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and competence to work effectively under supervision in special needs settings while developing an understanding of the context, issues, and approaches related to special needs. Learners will explore the concept of “need” in relation to disability, relevant legislation and policies, and a range of conditions, their causes, and implications. The program covers national and local resources, best practices, and the emotional and practical impacts on families. It also examines the history of special needs provision in Ireland, the roles of support staff and interdisciplinary teams, and the importance of advocacy, equality, confidentiality, and independence in promoting inclusive, high-quality care and education.

This course will run every Wednesday 9:00am-13:15pm

This award equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and competence to work effectively under supervision as Special Needs Assistants. It focuses on understanding the role, responsibilities, and key qualities required, as well as relevant disability legislation and the rights of children to autonomy and participation. Learners will develop the ability to support children with additional needs through appropriate care routines, effective communication, and collaboration with teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams. The program emphasizes promoting equality, maintaining professionalism, and reflecting on personal practice to ensure each child’s individuality and needs are respected and met.

This course will run every Wednesday from 6:00pm-8:00pm

This award equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and competence to assist effectively in speech and language therapy practice. Learners will learn to support therapists in implementing therapeutic programmes, apply various communication styles and augmentative systems, and participate in rehabilitation practices. The program emphasizes personal development, self-awareness, and strategies for delivering high-quality, confidential client care. Learners will also develop strong communication and feedback skills to enhance collaboration with both clients and therapists.

This course will run every Tuesday 2:00pm-4:00pm and every Wednesday 2:00pm – 4:00pm
