Part-Time Special Needs Assisting Courses Commencing September 26

All courses are offered on a part-time basis and run for 13 weeks. They are delivered using a blended learning approach, combining online and in-person elements to provide flexibility and support. Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and suitability assessment before being offered a place, ensuring the course meets their learning needs.

This award equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and competence to work effectively under supervision as Special Needs Assistants. It focuses on understanding the role, responsibilities, and key qualities required, as well as relevant disability legislation and the rights of children to autonomy and participation. Learners will develop the ability to support children with additional needs through appropriate care routines, effective communication, and collaboration with teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams. The program emphasizes promoting equality, maintaining professionalism, and reflecting on personal practice to ensure each child’s individuality and needs are respected and met.

This course will run every Wednesday  from 9:00am -13:15pm

This specialized award provides learners with the theoretical framework and practical competencies necessary to assist effectively in the education and care of individuals with special educational needs. Students will evaluate the current legislative landscape and educational options available within Ireland, while exploring advanced theories of curriculum implementation and classroom inclusion. The course emphasizes the practical administration of the national curriculum, the utilization of positive behavior management interventions, and the collaborative development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) alongside multidisciplinary teams. Additionally, the program fosters professional resilience by addressing workplace stressors and encourages learners to critically reflect on personal attitudes.
