A new route to a degree in Software Development!

Complete the first year of a four-year degree in Portlaoise Institute – then complete the remainder of your degree in SETU’s Carlow Campus!

South East Technological University (SETU) and Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board (LOETB) are participating in an Unified Tertiary Project to co-deliver a degree programme in Portlaoise. This programme will give people of Portlaoise and surrounding areas the opportunity to access a third level course in their local area without any requirement for a CAO application.

Our Honours Software Development Degree will equip you with the qualifications to enable you to work in a vast array of organisations from small local companies to large multinationals. Course content in the first three years includes a broad range of subjects and an industry work placement. Year 4 concentrates on stateof-the-art, high-level software development topics such as secure app development, data science, distributed systems and an extensive project. 

In this four-year course, you will complete the first year in Portlaoise Institute, followed by Years 2, 3 and 4 in SETU’s Carlow campus Students will be registered with SETU from Year 1 and will have access to the full range of services available to all SETU students. Transport from Portlaoise to Carlow will be provided in Year 1 for cross-campus workshops.
