This intensive course in Hairdressing is designed to Introduce and provide students with the basic professional techniques and related knowledge required for employment in the specialized Hairdressing industry. Students will gain recognized professional qualifications. Practical training is provided in the fully equipped college hairdressing salon. Work Experience programme offers students opportunity to further develop their skills.
Please note that students are required to purchase their hairdressing kit and uniform and have additional exam fees.

It is desirable that students should be of Leaving Certificate Standard or have achieved an Applied Leaving Certificate with Distinction. Portlaoise Institute welcomes applications from mature students. Mature students are assessed on their merits and do not require the above qualifications.
All students are required to complete an assessment before commencing a Further Education course in Portlaoise Institute. This assessment confirms if the student has the required level of English and Maths (if applicable) to complete a Level 5 course.

Having successfully completed the certificate in Hairdressing course, students can pursue an apprenticeship in Hairdressing.
- Higher Education Progression
Having successfully completed the certificate in Hairdressing course, Students may progress to the Advanced Certificate in Hairdressing Level 6 course.
